How To Fight Shy Of Giving A Toast At Thanksgiving

In our modern society more than 60% people are somewhat scared of giving a toast especially because they lack the art of public speaking. Public speaking phobia is also one of the major cause of people avoid giving toast even to their most loved one. Giving a toast is an ancient tradition where the speaker becomes the center of attraction. All ears are on the speaker making him/her bit hesitant in speaking good words about Thanksgiving celebrations in a family.

In this article I will tell you how you can fight shy off public speaking and give a wonderful toast this Thanksgiving. Please leave me a comment and share your views on how to overcome public speaking phobia and give a toast at Thanksgiving.

1
Before giving a toast just analyze the mood of the party and guests. There are various things you should check before rising to give a toast. You should see that the glasses of your guests are full and they are not into middle of something.
2
Initially tapping a glass was in custom just to get the devil away (bell like sound repels devil). Nowadays, tapping a glass is considered as inappropriate and indecorous. Tapping a glass after the toast is still considered as a good thing.
3
When you are ready to give a toast you should simply stand up and wait until you get the attention of everyone.
4
Position yourself in such a manner that you are audible for everyone. Make sure that your voice reaches everyone and you should see straight into the eyes of your guests.
5
Do not give a very long speech as it might bore the audience, it would be wise to vent your thoughts in short and simple words still expressing your gratitude.
6
While giving a toast ensure that you make direct eye contact with the person you are giving toast to and keep an eye on all the other guests. Their expressions might tell you whether you are going in right or wrong direction.
7
Avoid talking about sentimental issues and do mention the deeds of the person you are giving toast. Give thanks to the hosts and oblige them in nice words.
8
You can take very famous line of President Kennedy to express your gratitude. Start your speech by saying “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
9
Do not look at the table or anything else, you should not look distracted while giving a toast. Remember a great toast always comes from heart so don't be afraid of saying things which your heart feels right. Still avoiding sentimental issues.
